PPI Sub-Regional Meeting, Hanoi, Nov/Dec 2010

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) together with Vietnam’s Public Procurement Agency (PPA) co-organized a two-day East/Southeast Asian Sub-Regional Meeting of the Asia Pacific Procurement Partnership Initiative (PPI).  This meeting was held in Hanoi, Vietnam on 30 November to 01 December 2010.

This is the first sub-regional group session coming out of the PPI Start-up Meeting in Yogyakarta last July 2010 where the PPI work plan was developed and its outputs defined.  The PPI, a regional technical assistance which aims to develop a platform for exchange of best practices in procurement among public officials, procurement practitioners (both public and private sector), and civil society, is an outcome of the Asia Pacific Procurement Forum Consultative Meeting held in ADB Headquarters last August 2009.

The themes for this sub-regional meeting in Hanoi include 1) professionalizing the procurement function, and 2) e-Procurement (e-GP).  Participants were comprised of public procurement officials from China, Mongolia, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.  Resource persons on e-GP from Canada and South Korea gave presentations.
